Avoid

Some have made suggestions that I think are best avoided for a number of different reasons, but one in particular is common to them all. Regardless of how you might think your actions will affect them, your actions will not only affect you, but reflect upon who you are. Even if you happened to have had a bad breakup with someone not so nice, you should behave with the utmost of maturity and care for your values. Not for their sake, but for yours.

Lots of drinking or other substances

Some say more emphasis on the bender is needed. It can help to sort of have a lost night or two in there. One person suggested a bottle of scotch (Johnny Walker, blue if you have the bucks to spend, use the money you saved up for her/his birthday/christmas gift). However, alcohol is a depressant, so binging can make you feel terrible both physically and emotionally. Other substances are not worth the risk of damage/addiction. If you want to beat yourself up, challenging yourself bodily (see the Get Physical section above) is a much better way to hurt AND feel good.

Burning their stuff or throwing it out a window.

Destructive behavior is to be avoided. Return their items to them. If you can't do it in person, either ship the items, or have a friend drop them off for you. The symbolism of such an act will help you let go of some of the attachment and pain.
